A First Look at Leather Ledger’s Bag Data
Leather Ledger was created to bring clarity to the Portland Leather Goods (PLG) resale market. Instead of relying on scattered anecdotes or guesswork, we’re gathering real numbers from real sales and turning them into insights that help buyers and sellers alike.
This snapshot of the past 30 days doesn’t tell the whole story, but it offers a clear glimpse into what’s moving, what’s commanding higher prices, and where variability comes into play.
What Everyone’s Buying
When it comes to sheer activity, a few styles dominate the PLG resale landscape. These are the bags that changed hands most often this past month:
- Tote (Classic + Zipper) – 443 combined sales
- Mini Crossbody (Classic + Zipper) – 313 combined sales
- Lola – 203 sales
- Medium Crossbody – 161 sales
- Bucket Bag – 154 sales
Together, these account for a large share of all resale movement, proving which silhouettes remain steady favorites across the community.
Where Buyers Pay the Most
But popularity isn’t everything. Some styles move in smaller numbers yet still hold strong value when they do sell. Here’s where buyers were paying the most on average:
- Tote – $135.19
- Lola (East/West) – $132.96
- Market Tote – $129.50
- Lola – $118.85
- Butterfly Bucket Bag – $110.87
Crossbodies and structured totes are clear standouts, with buyers willing to invest more to secure them.
The Wildcards
Not every resale is predictable. Some bags see big swings depending on condition, rarity, or even how the listing was presented. These PLG styles had the widest price ranges:
- Mini Crossbody (Classic): $25 to $375
- Tote (Classic): $36 to $320
- Tote (Zipper): $42 to $250
- Market Tote: $50 to $350
- Circle Crossbody: $22 to $150
Why This Matters
As much as we’d like to, Leather Ledger isn’t about presenting “perfect” numbers. It’s about capturing the real PLG resale landscape, complete with trends, patterns, and the occasional surprise. By looking at the data as a whole, we can start to see:
- Which styles dominate the market
- Which designs command higher average prices
- Where price swings open opportunities (or risks)
- What price to set your bag at for a quick sale
The charts you see here are simplified snapshots designed for the blog. Inside the member dashboards, the visuals look different. They’re interactive, filterable, and built for exploring the data in more detail. That means you can quickly zero in on what a bag has actually been selling for, making pricing decisions faster and easier. Subscribers get the full experience.
This is only the beginning. In future posts, we’ll dive deeper into condition effects, seasonal shifts, and trade vs resale values.
