Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions & how to get the most out of our dashboards

Leather Ledger is designed to give the community a clear view of Portland Leather Goods (PLG) resale trends. If you’ve been following for a while or just found Leather Ledger through a resale group, this page answers common questions about how the dashboards work, where the data comes from, and what to expect.
Q: Where does the data come from?

A: Our data is sourced from multiple publicly available platforms, including:

  • PLG resale listings on Treet, which make up the majority of the dataset
  • PLG resale listings on Mercari
  • PLG resale listings on eBay
  • Select observations from Buy Sell Trade (BST) resale communities, included carefully and in limited scope

For transparency, the source of each individual resale listing is clearly labeled in the Dashboard under Product Details.

A: No. Leather Ledger is an independent project and is not affiliated with Treet, Portland Leather Goods, or any third-party brand or marketplace.
A: Resale listings are incredibly messy by nature, so Leather Ledger uses a proprietary data refinement process to transform scattered resale listings into consistent, trustworthy insights. Product names are standardized, missing details like size or style are clarified when possible, and colors are normalized so they stay consistent. While some variation will always exist, this process ensures the overall data is far more accurate and reliable than raw resale listings alone.

A: Because resale listings are entered by individual users, details like products, colors, quality, and condition notes are rarely standardized. This naturally creates inconsistencies. For example, a bag might be listed under “Small Goods” instead of “Crossbody Bag,” which means it could appear on the Littles Dashboard instead of the Bags Dashboard (or vice versa). We apply a thorough cleaning process to reduce these issues, but with thousands of rows to manage, some small variation is normal and expected.

A: Product Details show individual resale listings behind the aggregated data. This can include color, sale price, days on market, sold date, listing URL, and data source, when available. Viewing the original listing URL allows you to see the photos and description used to sell the item, which can provide helpful context.
A: Product Details reflect the information provided in the original resale listing. Some listings include full descriptions and timestamps, while others may be missing certain fields or contain inconsistencies.
A: No. Summary charts are designed to show broader pricing and trend patterns, while Product Details allow you to dig into individual listings when you need more context. They work best together.
A: Individual listings can be helpful for context, but Leather Ledger is designed to show patterns across many sales. We recommend using Product Details alongside aggregated trends rather than relying on any single data point.

A: The dashboards are designed to update a couple of times per day. However, occasional delays or errors may occur due to platform issues or internet connectivity.

A: The dashboards work on any device, but desktop or tablet provides the best experience. On mobile, filters are easiest to use in portrait mode, while wide tables are easier to view in landscape.
A: Resale prices can vary based on condition, color, timing, demand, and how a listing is presented. Sometimes a sale reflects the right buyer at the right time, which can result in prices that fall outside the typical range. Outliers are a normal part of resale data and are one reason trend views are so useful.
A: Leather Ledger currently focuses on sold resale listings to reflect what buyers actually paid, rather than asking prices.
A: Yes! Leather Ledger is a living project that’s regularly updated and refined. Improvements and new features are added as patterns emerge and needs become clear, with additional dashboards and data sources planned over time. The more support we receive from the community, the more we can do.
A: The best way to support Leather Ledger is by subscribing, but support doesn’t have to end there. Spreading the word to friends, sharing the project in your groups, and providing feedback all help us grow. The more support we get from the community, the more features and data we can offer!

A: Absolutely. We welcome ideas and feedback to improve Leather Ledger. If you have a feature request or notice something that could be refined, please reach out.
