Why Resale Pricing Feels So Confusing

and What Actually Helps

I see a lot of frustration around resale pricing, and I think most of it comes down to people using different reference points. Some anchor to retail, some to what they personally paid, and others to one or two listings they remember seeing. That can make pricing feel arbitrary even when sellers are acting in good faith.

What helped me most was looking at actual sold resale data over time, not just the few current listings I could find. I wrote more about my personal approach in How I Price a Bag, but the biggest shift for me came from seeing real price ranges and how much variation exists. Timing, condition, and demand all play a role.

That context matters even more now than it did a few years ago. In 2023, resale demand was strong enough that many bags sold quickly across a wide range of prices. Today, there is simply more inventory in circulation and more listings competing for attention. That makes real sold data especially useful when trying to price thoughtfully in a changing market.

I ended up building a PLG resale tool that aggregates sold listings because it helped me so much as a seller and it helps me buy smarter. I’ve made it available as an option for others who find this kind of visibility helpful.
